Don Chambers seeks HELP - US$10,000 Urgently Needed by April 12th

US$10,000 Urgently Needed by April 12th

Please help us raise $10,000 for medical treatment for Kaion. Kaion is a brave 7 year old boy who has leukemia. This is Kaion’s 3rd relapse. He has fought and struggled for life since he was 5 years old. Kaion is a neighbour of Don Chambers, a veteran teacher at ASIJ. On the occasions when Kaion is not ill he plays with Don’s sons.

Without treatment Kaion only has at most 1-3 months to live. This is a new treatment regime which is not covered by medical insurance. It is hoped that the treatment is successful and will make it possible for Kaion to undertake bone marrow transfer which should cure him permanently. Cruelly the bone marrow is ready and waiting, however treatment cannot be undertaken unless Kaion is in remission.

This treatment is a last desperate throw of the dice for a family that has had to endure the agony of despair and hope these past 2 years. Kaion is an amazingly brave young man. When offered the choice of a painless last few months with his family or the agony of treatment (it is very very painful) with a slim chance of survival he chose the possibility of a long life.

Please help us help Kaion. A little goes a long way. Please send whatever you can afford via bank transfer (see details below) or send the contribution to Don Chambers who will arrange payment.

There is no guarantee that Kaion will be saved, however your contribution will show a family that a community cares and take away the financial worry at least. Thank you for reading this.

Documentary Ideas....

Here are some topics... help me pick by voting:
  • "International Schools" - Biculturalism [Recommended Book Resource in Japanese]
  • Akiba/Otaku-culture
  • Japanese protitution
  • Japanese "gyaru" culture
  • Shinjuku 2 chome - Gay Town of Tokyo -> "Boys Love" Manga... + Japanese History of Homosexuality
  • Internet Dangers - (read article)
  • Youth Crime Inspired by True Notebook by Mark Salzman

Any other ideas?

By the way, I highly recommend this book:

This is a book written in Japanaese about "biculturalism" by an ASIJ graduate, Kenji Kushida

Want to make a documentary

First of all, I am back on Xanga, because I like their blogging function better than the "notes" on Facebook, or the new setup on Blogger.

I really want to make a documentary... actually the idea was first proposed by Shun E. (SMIS '06 - UBC '10) but we are looking for topics to make a documentary on... do you guys have any ideas? I'm hoping something surrounding Japan....

One idea that a friend of my came up with was Shinjuku 2 Chome (which is the  gay town of Tokyo).. but I don't know how much information we can gather from that..

Just a side note: I am surprised in amount of alumni in recent years who've been doing filmmaking... just off the top of my head, May Jay (SVA) and Dillon Magrann-Wells (NYFA-LA) are both studying film production, and Kai Lambert is apparently doing stuff in film as well.... I envy them so much, because they get to study/work in production... hopefully I'll be following in their steps soon as well...
oh btw... check out Matt's movie I think its coming out soon? http://www.myspace.com/burnsidemovie -- I'm looking forward to it Matt!
